"Lynnhaven Dive Center - Where Diving is Fun”
LDC opened its doors in the fall of 1979. We were located in a small store in hilltop south shopping center, right next to Kmart. We had a 1956 school bus which was converted into a camper to take our students to the Florida springs to get certified. We also dove all the local lakes and explored our shoreline and the bay bridge islands! Fun and real diving situations were our guiding principles. Our motto "Lynnhaven Dive Center where Diving is Fun” was a result of these real life diving adventures.
We joined forces with Brownings Marine when Randy Browning became a dedicated scuba instructor and diving adventure seeker. We moved into Brownings Marine in 1980 and enjoyed an immediate success an outpouring of boaters who also wanted to go diving and explore both the underwater world and new destinations. Our real business success was a result of our devotion to real life diving experiences and the business expertise that Randy and his wonderful family brought to our partnership.
The First Dive Boat
We purchased our first dive boat in 1981. An outgrowth of our commitment to take our students diving in the ocean where of course diving was more fun!
By 1982 LDC had tripled in size and Brownings Marine was growing at a phenomenal, unprecedented rate. Randy was forced to concentrate on his boat business and we needed more room! We moved to 1413 Great Neck Road (our present location).
We added another dive vessel the 50ft "Cindy Loo" named for Cindy Hillier, who worked tirelessly at being the bookkeeper, mother and wife! Growth and more growth to meet the needs of our growing diver population.
We added a pool and purchased another two boats for our divers, "Lady Sharon" and "Miss Lindsey," named for the world famous, diver extraordinaire Lindsey Hillier!
We opened Xanadu Dive Center in Freeport, Bahamas.
LDC accomplished many firsts in the dive industry- first dive business to gross a million dollars, number one Scubapro Dealer, number one SSI Dealer, first dive business to certify 1000 students in one year, first dive business to capture major military contract as the sole supplier to the seal teams and military divers.....Luke Hillier was able to convert this small family business into a multibillion dollar military, government, police and fire department supplier.
Lindsey Hillier took over the reins of Lynnhaven Dive Center in 2004 and has steadily improved the efficiency and popularity of LDC. Her management guided the Dive Shop through the tumultuous years of last recession and continues to this day the commitment to and excitement of the beauty of the undersea world and to bring this to our new divers by running dive trips locally and on dive adventures around the world.
